Austin FC will play Lionel Messi and Inter Miami as part of its 2026 MLS schedule, the league announced Thursday. That match will be in South Florida, though.

In the next couple years, it's possible FC Cincinnati's playoff runs could come at a different time in the year.

MLS owners could also vote to shift its competition format to a single-table system with five geographically organized divisions, instead of the current Western and Eastern Conferences, according to The Athletic .

The 2025 MLS conference semifinals are next on the calendar following the November international break, where teams will fight for a spot to play in conference championship weekend.

MLS has unveiled its 2026 regular-season schedule, which opens Feb. 21 with St. Louis CITY SC hosting Charlotte FC and later features Inter Miami’s debut at Miami Freedom Park on April 4. The league will pause from late May to mid-July for the FIFA World Cup before returning with marquee rivalry matches.
