The first hurricane of the Atlantic season, Isaias, surges toward the U.S. Gulf Coast, prompting mandatory evacuations, school closures and local government shutdowns in parts of Florida. Heavy rain with the risk of flooding was possible into the weekend as far inland as the Tennessee Valley.
Runners in the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon could wind up racing in the rain thanks to remnants of the newly formed Tropical Storm Isaias in the Gulf.

What to expect in Southern California and Mexico from powerful Hurricane Polo
Hurricane Polo delivered heavy rain on Mexico’s Pacific coast Thursday as the powerful system appeared on a track to deliver indirect impacts to Southern California this weekend. Polo has changed between Category 4 and 5 strength and was expected to skirt Mexico’s coast over the next few days.
The list is expected to grow as the Tropical Storm Isaias gets closer to the coast.
In his announcement of the state of emergency, Gov. Brian Kemp warned that Georgia could face heavy rain, flooding, tornadoes and wind gusts strong enough to cause power outages.
